Wake

The sun goes down.

I start to drown.

My hopes melt down

For you’re not there.

I wonder why,

And start to cry,

And wish I’d die,

For you’re not there.

Another day crossed,

Another dream lost…

This eternal frost

That chills each prayer.

I dig down deep,

And try to sleep,

These tears I weep

Wash out this stare…

But I don’t care,

For you’re not there…

You’re not there.

The birds sing out.

I wake in doubt,

My soul in drought

With you not there.

My future crawls

Through empty halls.

Ambition stalls

With you not there.

The things I cleave!

The depths I grieve!

There’s no reprieve

With you not there!

My stubborn pride

Can’t move aside

The pain astride

Each bleeding tear...

My wounds lay bare

In death’s black lair,

For you’re not there…

You’re not there.

But life goes on.

My will is gone.

Yet I feel drawn

To climb each stair,

And seek that place

Where loving grace

Will help me trace

The paths so rare,

To take me where

There’s love to share,

For you are there…

You are there.

Please help me find

That place divined

To rest my mind

From all despair!

Fulfill this prayer

Of love to share,

For you are there…

You are there!
